Maternity

Having a baby is one of the most joyous times in life, the last thing a person should be worrying about are medical bills and expenses. We can offer a number of international health insurance plans specially designed for expatriates in China that provide maternity coverage.

A plan with a maternity benefit can provide cover for any pregnancy related treatment. Plans will usually cover for any emergencies or complications that may arise, meaning that you don't have to worry if anything happens. Plans can also provide newborn coverage so that you can provide protection for your child no matter what the state of their health is at birth.

There are many benefits offered by maternity cover, some of these are:

Most international health insurance plans will provide a maternity option. However, it is important to note that maternity coverage will often have a waiting period of 10 to 12 months.

Newborn Coverage

New born coverage will usually have a waiting period of 10 months from the start of a plan, meaning that claims cannot be made on a new born infant until there has been 10 months of coverage.

There are generally two options for a new born coverage benefit, these are:

Free benefit for the child:

The plan will offer free coverage for the infant. This cover will usually be for 30 days or up to $30,000. After the limit has been reached an application must be made for continuing coverage. A free benefit is usually directly linked to maternity cover.

Child is born into the plan:

If the new born is born into the plan they will be guaranteed medical cover indefinitely, no matter what their state of health is.  If you would like the child to stay on the plan you must notify the insurer soon after birth to ensure continued cover. When a child is born into a plan, the premiums for that policy will normally increase.

If a child is born with a medical condition it is said to have a congenital birth defect. Some birth defects are minor physical abnormalities (birth marks) others can be life threatening and expensive to treat. It is important that your plan provides comprehensive cover in case there are any unforeseen complications. The main types of congenital birth defects are:
